My name is Alice (and I remember everything). Three points if you get the movie reference.
This is my "real" name, but not my birth name. I choose it because the many cultural, personal and subconscious associations and energies of the name appeal to me and collectively fit the nature of who I have become.
The name Alice originally means "exalted", "noble", or "of noble kind". This appeals to my vanity. The numerological traits of the name suit my purposes.
The two most well known Alices from fiction and literature are the heroines of Alice In Wonderland and Resident Evil respectively. Both Alices with no last name, thrust in confusion and fear into impossible, surreal worlds.
One a witty and intuitive child wandering a psychedelic world peopled with talking animals, fantastic creatures and absurd human beings, repeatedly faced with things that are entirely nonsensical, and yet make more sense than the real world.
The other an unwilling and unwitting hero with phenomenal power she can never fully understand, facing nightmarish monsters, the worst of them wearing human faces.
For reasons, some obvious and others not so much, I strongly relate to both characters.
My travel down the Poison Path has been down a different branch than most. I began with using the poisons in magic, making ritual inks from toxic berries, Artemisian incenses and Hellebore charms; and have only recently begun applying the poisons to my own body.
First and foremost, I am other. That is, I am a person who cannot be quantified or qualified. I use understandable terms and labels to explain myself to others, but at the end of the day, I am me, and me will not be made to fit into a little box.
I am a Neo-Hellenic priestess of Hecate, dark goddess of change and hidden wisdom, ruler of crossroads and all in-between places, patron of the tribeless and the outcast. Hecate is among many other things a goddess of poisoners; most poisonous plants are sacred to her.
Part of my walk down the poison path is as a transgender person. I am male to female transgender, and not only is transgenderism a central element of my spirituality, but hormone replacement therapy is the use of adulterating substances to change my body in the pursuit of enlightenment. Part of the Poison Path.
I am also, less importantly, the proprietor of The Dragon and Sphinx, the organization which hosts this board, and the co-administrator of The Small Gods Society.
If there's anything else you want to know about me, it's probably been said either somewhere on this board, on the website, or in the blog, but feel free to ask.
May you find what you seek,
Alice
